Abstract  —  Study Summary

Abstract

This study examines students’ perceptions of Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) at IPEKA Plus Christian School BSD and their influence on students’ social, personal, and academic development. A qualitative descriptive research design was used, involving semi-structured interviews with 20 Grade 10 students actively participating in CCA and ECA programs. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that participation in these activities positively contributes to communication skills, confidence, discipline, teamwork, and social interaction. Students also reported increased motivation and stronger friendships. However, challenges such as time management difficulties, fatigue, and lack of interest in certain activities were identified. Overall, CCA and ECA support students’ holistic development when supported by proper engagement and balanced academic responsibilities.

Chapter 1  —  Introduction

Background

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are school programs outside regular lessons — sports, clubs, uniformed groups, and interest-based organizations. Schools encourage participation because CCAs provide opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, time management, and communication.

Despite these benefits, CCAs do not impact all students equally. Some thrive; others experience stress, pressure, or disengagement — especially when participation is driven by requirements rather than personal interest.
